The Timeline Framework is the Software Developer Kit (SDK) that provides access to the
Windows Timeline features. The framework is a part of the
Wireless Communication Library but can be used as a standalone
library. The full framework's features list can be found below.
The framework has three editions:
- .NET Edition is a Timeline .NET assembly written in C# that can be used with Microsoft .NET, Python, and Unity.
- C++ Edition is a Timeline C++ library written in C++ and can be used with Microsoft Visual Studio or other compatible compilers.
- VCL Edition is a collection of Timeline VCL components written in Delphi that can be used with Embarcadero RAD Studio (Delphi and CBuilder) and Lazarus (FreePascal).

Applications we develop must help users do great things — enabling a wide range of creative, productivity, and entertainment scenarios. Returning to activities can be a challenge. By writing the User Activities, application developers have a new tool to get users back into their application.
Starting from Windows 10 16299 or higher, the User Activities generated by your application appear in Windows Timeline. By writing the User Activities into the Microsoft Graph, you can express specific content within your application as a destination that is showcased in Windows.
Each User Activity represents a single destination within your app, such as a TV show, document, or your current campaign in a game. When you engage with that activity (by creating an Activity Session), the system creates a history record indicating the start and end time for that activity. As you re-engage with that User Activity over time, multiple History Records will be recorded for a single User Activity.

The Timeline Framework demo version can be downloaded as an executable installer (EXE link) or as a 7Zip archive (ZIP link). The executable installer is not signed, so you may see a Windows warning when running the installer. To avoid this you can use the 7Zip packed version. Demo version limitations
- The "Unregistered version" warning dialog appears when you start an application that uses the Timeline Framework.
- You cannot use the demo version for developing free or commercial applications.
- You cannot use the demo version for developing applications for your own needs.
