The Wi-Fi Framework is the Software Developer Kit (SDK) that provides easy access to the Wi-Fi features on Windows platforms. It supports native Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct technologies, allows capturing (sniffing) raw Wi-Fi packets. The Wi-Fi Framework is a part of the Wireless Communication Library but can be used as a standalone library.

Unlike the standard Windows Wireless API, the Wi-Fi Framework includes a number of unique features, such as: capturing raw Wi-Fi packets, detecting connection and disconnection of Wi-Fi Direct devices when running in SoftAP mode, reading IP addresses for Wi-Fi devices, and more. Using the Wi-Fi Framework, you can easily turn your computer into a Wi-Fi access point. The Wi-Fi Framework supports both the legacy Wi-Fi Hosted Network technology and the modern Wi-Fi Direct Soft AP. For both, the Wi-Fi Framework implements features not supported by the standard Windows WLAN API: the ability to disconnect devices connected to the access point and the ability to impose restrictions on connecting devices. The Black and White lists build in the wclWiFiSoftAP class provides an easy way to control acceptable devices for your Wi-Fi Software Access Point.

Starting with Wi-Fi Framework 7.13.0.0, the library allows your application to read and change advanced Wi-Fi interface parameters. For dual-band Wi-Fi adapters, this new feature enables you to switch the operating band and limit it to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz if needed.

In addition to Wi-Fi functionality, the Wi-Fi Framework includes a Network List Manager, the class that allows you to manage Windows networks, determine the connection type (local or Internet), and much more. Additionally, the Wi-Fi Framework enables you to retrieve a list of all network adapters installed on the computer and obtain their MAC and IP addresses.
